Utah Head Coach Ray Giacoletti
"I thought that we gave a great effort. We played a lot of young guys tonight, and they will get better. This was a really good team for us to play. They made it tough for us to get certain entries in, and that was good for us to work against. We held them to 18 points in the first half, but it's hard to sustain that kind of an effort for 40 minutes.
"I wanted to get a lot of our guys minutes and everyone played solid. It was great to get 10 guys a lot of playing time tonight. I really liked the effort tonight. I was excited to see our guys play so well in respect to boxing out and playing defense."
"(Bryant) Markson looked really good tonight. (Chris) Grant has looked really competitive in practice and that's the reason he got the start. Grant has earned his spot. Chris Jackson is also finishing plays and it's tough for him on defense--playing with smaller guys--but in the regular season he will match up better."
Utah Senior Forward Bryant Markson
"We are much improved this season. We have been training hard and working on our defense in practice. I thought Lawrence Borha and Tim Drisdom played well tonight. `Big Red' (Chris Jackson) also had a great performance."
"We are ready to get started with the regular season, and we are hoping to really do well in the Mountain West Conference this season."
Utah Freshman Center Luke Nevill
"It's been a really long time since I played in a real game, and tonight was a good experience. It is tough to play against smaller guys, so I'm trying to improve on my defense by getting to a lower stance. It will be nice to match-up against some of the bigger guys this season. We have really been working on conditioning in practice to be fit for the upcoming season."
