-Senior guard Josh "Jiggy" Watkins scored Utah's first points of the year. In fact, he scored the Utes' first nine points of the season as he went 3-of-4 from the floor and 2-of-2 at the free throw line to start the game. Both of his opening free throws came on "and-1's"...the first was a conventional three-point play on a good layup while drawing the foul, and the second was on a four-point play where he sank the 3-pointer, got fouled and knocked down the extra shot.
-Watkins finished with a game-high 23 points, one shy of his career-high of 24. He also added five assists.
-Junior center Jason Washburn tallied his first career double-double, pulling down 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. He also tied his career best with four offensive boards.
-With less than two minutes left in the game, Utah was 6-of-8 at the free throw line. Watkins and freshman guard Kareem Storey were each 3-of-4.
-Storey finished the game with 10 points, all at the free throw line, on a 10-of-12 effort in his first collegiate regular-season game.
-Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak got his first win as the Utes' leader.
-Seven Utes scored their first points as members of Utah basketball: Storey (10), junior wing Cedric Martin (4), freshman guard Anthony Odunsi (3), junior wing Dijon Farr (2), freshman wing George Matthews (2), redshirt sophomore forward Javon Dawson (1) and freshman forward Blake Wilkinson (1).
-For all seven of them, it was their first NCAA Division I regular-season basketball game. For Storey, Matthews, Odunsi and Wilkinson, it was their first-ever collegiate game. Additionally, junior guard Kyle Perkins saw his first Div. I action as well, playing six minutes.
