Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
On the first half -
"We had a couple of those stretches where we opened up a lead. It was new territory for us with the turnovers and I thought they were doing a heck of a job guarding. They had 29 points in the first half and 11 of those were off our turnovers. It kind of took a little air out of our sails. We got the fouls, which is going to be a point of emphasis for us. We ended up playing small ball and Parker [Van Dyke] and Ahmad [Fields] are getting some reps. We have to get these young kids under fire. We had a long stretch where we were having a hard time scoring, but our offense is so much easier when we are getting stops."
On scoring close to the basket -
"UC Davis started a smaller lineup than we were anticipating. I think to match up with Jordan [Loveridge] a bit better they put somebody smaller on him. We wanted our three, four, and five men to crash the boards and we thought we would have an advantage there. Our one and our two were designated to get back. We did a good job for the most part. When we missed some shots, we cleaned up a few from the defensive rebounding point of view and were pretty solid."
On his team's defense -
"I thought our defense was really good. We had a pretty intense week. We were doing video breakdowns daily, Monday through Thursday. Our guys really locked in on some of the coverages we have and we tweaked some of the pick-and-roll stuff. I really want the identity of our team to be our defense and the focus that we have. We want to be known as a good defensive team."
UC Davis Head Coach Jim Les
"Utah played really well tonight, they were definitely the aggressor. They came out and were stronger on both sides of the ball. When you have a thing like that, a result like tonight happens. We need to go back now and do some soul searching and make the necessary changes."
