SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -John Bryant scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds despite playing only 14 minutes because of foul trouble in Santa Clara's 72-57 win over Utah on Monday night.

Bryant played intermittently after picking up two fouls in the first 87 seconds of the game, but helped the Broncos (3-1) hold the Utes (2-2) without a basket for nearly eight minutes of the second half while pulling away.

Calvin Johnson scored 21 points for the Broncos, including back-to-back 3-pointers down the stretch. The second one came after Utah's Luke Nevill swatted away a layup attempt by Brody Angley, and gave the Broncos a 62-45 lead with 2:34 left.

The Broncos then made 10 straight free throws to clinch the victory.

Johnnie Bryant scored 19 points to lead the Utes, including 17 in the second half. But Nevill managed only 10 points on 2-for-10 shooting, and the Utes shot only 39 percent in the second half. Tyler Kepkay added 11 points for Utah.

The Broncos led 29-27 at halftime, by taking advantage of eight Utah turnovers which Santa Clara turned into 13 points.
