Utah vs. USC - Quick Hits
A big part of Utah's success this season has been its team defense. The Utes (57.2 ppg) are allowing nine points less than the national average (66.3), and rank among the top 20 in the country.
Utah also ranks sixth nationally in opponents field goal percentage (35.7%) and 23rd in opponents two-point field goal percentage (41.3%). Last season the Utes ranked 321st and 299th respectively in both categories.
Offensively, Utah is second in the Pac-12 with an average of 1.11 points per shot. The Utes also rank 13th nationally, tops in the Pac-12, in assisted basket percentage (65.0%) and 13th nationally at the stripe (76.3%)
Utah dropped its first two Pac-12 games in gut-wrenching fashion, 55-54 in overtime at Arizona State and 60-57 at No. 3 Arizona. After Thursday's setback to UCLA, Utah's seven losses have been by a combined 26 points (3.7 per game margin).
USC has dropped two close contests in a row, 72-64 vs. Cal and 66-60 at Colorado.
The Trojans have one of the best passing guards in the league in Jio Fontan (2nd - 5.1 apg). They also have a formidable defensive frontcourt in Dewayne Dedmon (4th - 1.8 bpg) and Omar Oraby (6th - 1.7 bpg).
Last Time Out
Cedric Martin had a season-high 12 points to lead Utah this evening but the Runnin' Utes fell to UCLA, 57-53. Jason Washburn also had a stellar evening with his third-straight double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds).
Jordan Loveridge scored in double figures for a team-leading 10th time this season with 11 points. Glen Dean had five assists to lead the Utes and also corralled six rebounds.
Utah held UCLA to its lowest point total of the season and kept star freshman Shabazz Muhammad in check (3-of-13, six points).
However, this game was also Utah's worst performance from beyond the arc this year, as it connected on only 20 percent (4-of-20) of its tries.
Utah's big issue in the first period was turning the ball over. The Utes coughed it up nine times, which led to 10 Bruin points. The Utes were much better over the final 20 minutes, out-rebounding the Bruins for the game and winning the turnover battle in the second half.
Washburn Working Way Up Charts
Washburn had one of the strongest weeks by a Ute since joining the Pac-12. The senior scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed a career-best 18 rebounds in the loss to the Sun Devils. He also blocked a season-best four shot Sun Devil shot attempts.
He followed that with his second double-double of the season (17 points, 11 rebounds) against No. 3 Arizona. In the contest against the Wildcats, Washburn also took and connected on his first three-point try of the season
He currently leads the league in rebounding and ranks eighth in scoring and third in blocks during conference play. He has notched double-doubles in the last three games and scored in double figures eight of the last nine.

The freshman poured in a career-best 24 points vs. Cal State Northridge. Prior to that performance his previous best was 22, which he combined with nine rebounds in the Utes' win over Wright State.
In the first meeting with SMU this year, Loveridge notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He followed that outing by scoring 17 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out a career-best five assists in the victory at Texas State.

After his career-high, 25-point performance at SMU, he followed that up with a 21-point performance in a win at Texas State. He also led the Utes with 18 points in the win over Boise State.
DuBois has impressed in his first year with the club, averaging 12.9 ppg, 18th in the Pac-12. He also ranks fourth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio and sixth in total helpers (3.8 apg).
DuBois is also one of the conference's league leaders in three-point shooting percentage (.420), free-throw percentage (83.1) and minutes played (33.1)
