Willamette at Utah - Quick Hits
Utah and Willamette met once more than 70 years ago, with the Utes taking a 41-23 victory at home on Dec. 17, 1941.
Willamette is a member of NCAA Division III and competes in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats were 5-20 last season with a 3-13 mark in the NWC.
The Bearcats' top returning player is senior guard Terrell Malley, who was last season's second-leading scorer with 12.2 points per game. He also averaged 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest.
Willamette played an exhibition game against an alumni squad last week, winning 90-78. Senior wing Elliot Babcock-Krenk was the game's top scorer with 21 points.
Utah had four players score double figures in last week's exhibition game against Simon Fraser, led by sophomore center Dallin Bachynski with a game-high 16. Senior guard Jarred DuBois was the team's top rebounder with eight boards and senior wing Cedric Martin posted game-highs of six assists and five steals.
Utah News and Notes
Four Utes Score Double Digits in 71-36 Exhibition Win
Bachynski led all scorers with 16 points in Utah's exhibition victory against Simon Fraser last week. Also reaching double digits were DuBois (14), senior center Jason Washburn (13) and freshman forward Jordan Loveridge (13). The four players combined to go 22-of-36 (.611) from the floor, led by Bachynski's 7-of-8 (.875) effort.
Utah Goes Strong on the Glass
The Utes out-rebounded Simon Fraser on Friday, 57-35, and grabbed 22 offensive boards. DuBois posted a team-high eight rebounds, while Loveridge grabbed seven and Bachynski added six. Loveridge and Bachynski each collected three offensive rebounds.
Utah held Simon Fraser to just 19.4% shooting for the game (12-of-62), including just 11.1% (4-of-36) in the second half. The Utes also made nine steals, led by Martin's game-high five swipes, and blocked seven shots, including Bachynski's three rejections.
Bigs on the Boards
Head coach Larry Krystkowiak has stated that he would like Utah's big men to maintain a pace of approximately one rebound every four minutes. This space will be devoted to tracking that stat throughout the season for Utah players who stand 6-foot-6 or taller. Bachynski (1 every 3.2 minutes), Loveridge (3.4) and freshman center Jeremy Olsen (2.3) fit this mold during the exhibition against Simon Fraser. Junior forward Renan Lenz (4.7) and Washburn (5.0) were just off the pace.
Foster, Dotson Sidelined with Foot Injuries
Redshirt senior David Foster will miss all of the 2012-13 season after suffering the exact same foot injury that held him out all of the 2011-12 season.
Junior Aaron Dotson will miss the early part of the season with a foot injury of his own.
The 2012-13 Schedule
Utah will host a Thanksgiving tournament called the BTI Classic, Nov. 21, 23 and 24. Joining the Utes will be Central Michigan, Idaho State and Wright State. Utah will be hosting its first non-conference tournament since the 1988 Utah Classic.
Utah begins its second season in the Pac-12 Conference on the road at Arizona (Jan. 3) and Arizona State (Jan. 5). The Utes then host UCLA in their conference home-opener on Jan. 10, followed by USC (Jan. 12).
Future scheduling note - after a brief hiatus, Utah and Utah State will resume their rivalry in 2014. USU will come to Salt Lake City in 2014, the Utes will go to Logan in 2015, the 2016 game will be played in Salt Lake City and 2017 will be back in Logan. The Utes and Aggies have not played since Nov. 24, 2010. Utah holds an all-time record of 130-92 (.586) against Utah State.
Huntsman Center History
The Runnin' Utes are 532-133 (.800) all-time in their current home, the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah's benchmark 500th win in the 42-year old facility came on Dec. 6, 2008, as the Utes posted a 91-61 blowout of eventual Southeastern Conference champion LSU.
Utah finished 6-9 at home last season, snapping a run of 38 consecutive season with a winning record at home. Utah's previous losing season in the Huntsman Center was in 1972-73, when the team was 6-10.
In conference home games over the last 17 years, Utah is 110-29 (.791). The Utes went 3-6 in conference home games last season in their first year in the Pac-12. Utah got its first Pac-12 victory in school history at home against Washington State, 62-60, in overtime.

Utah will play a minimum of 28 live televised games this year, including every conference contest and each game played in the Pac-12 Tournament.
The Runnin' Utes will appear on the Pac-12 Network 24 times in the regular season. Utah will also play on ESPNU twice and make one appearance on FSN.
