Fred Whittingham Jr. was named Director of Player Personnel for the Utah football program in January, 2012. He oversees recruiting operations, current player development, coaching clinics and youth and high school camps.

A former first-team Academic All-America football player for Brigham Young University and three-year starting running back, Whittingham led BYU in rushing for three consecutive seasons. He was a team captain, a two-time academic all-conference selection and was named BYU's Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete for all sports in 1990. He graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in communications.

Whittingham played professionally for the Los Angeles Rams' practice squad in 1990 and in the World League of American Football in 1991 for the San Antonio Riders and as a member of the Team Dallas practice squad.

Prior to joining the Utah football staff, Whittingham spent nearly 20 years with the McGraw-Hill companies and Simon & Schuster as a sales and marketing executive in the higher education publishing industry. He directed McGraw-Hill Higher Education's West Sales Region, encompassing universities and colleges west of the Mississippi and accounting for annual sales revenues of $100 million.

Fred Whittingham Jr. is the brother of Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham and son of the late Fred Whittingham Sr., a Utah assistant coach in the 1990s. He has three children: Ashley, Samuel and Rachel.
