Utah won its 12th-straight game against Utah State. The two schools will take a two-year hiatus after this season.
Attendance was 45,333, the ninth-largest crowd in school history and the largest for a Utah-Utah State game.
David Reed totaled a career-high 172 yards on 10 catches in the game. Utah has not had a player with more than 170 receiving yards in a game since Travis LaTendresse in 2005 (he had two games of over 190 yards receiving that year). Reed's previous career high was 87 yards, done against San Diego State in 2008.
Reed had 98 yards on four catches in the first quarter, and 111 yards on five catches in the first half.
Reed caught a 65-yard pass from Terrance Cain for Utah's first touchdown of the game. The play was Cain's career-long pass and Reed's career-long catch.
Cain made his first start at quarterback for Utah. He was 6-for-6 with 133 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter. He went 7-for-7 before his first incomplete pass.
Cain was 11-for-15 for 198 yards and one interception in first half. He finished 20-for-30 for 286 yards, two touchdowns and one pick.
Asiata's 36 carries ties for fourth-most in a game by a Ute, equaling Carl Monroe and Brandon Warfield.
Peel recorded career highs in catches (4) and yards (58). He also had a career-long 23-yard reception.
Luke Matthews recorded his first career punt return for Utah, a 38-yard return in the first quarter. He finished with two returns for 39 yards.
Matt Martinez blocked his first career punt in the second quarter, which went out of the back of the end zone for a safety. Utah last had a safety against Air Force in 2008. The Utes then recorded a second safety in the fourth quarter with a sack in the endzone.
Ben Vroman made his first career field goal in his first attempt, a 44 yard field goal. He was 4-for-4 in PAT's. Vroman also totaled three touchbacks on kickoffs.
Sean Sellwood made his first career punt for Utah in the third quarter. He averaged 46.8 yards on 4 punts.
Utah held Utah State to 16 yards passing in the second quarter and 20 yards passing in the third quarter.
Utah's defense had six pass breakups. Christian Cox tallied three breakups.
Justin Jones made his second career interception in the fourth quarter. He also had a pick against Wyoming in 2007.
