Kyle Whittingham is 8-9 as head coach against teams ranked in the AP Top 25 and is 1-1 this season.

The Utes snapped an eight-game winning streak in Thursday games with the loss.

Jon Hays was 19-of-32 for 160 yards passing with two touchdowns and one interception.

Travis Wilson entered the game late at quarterback and went 4-for-6 passing for 49 yards.

John White led Utah in rushing with 13 carries for 68 yards.

Kelvin York scored his first career touchdown on a five-yard run in the fourth quarter. He had three carries for 15 yards.

DeVonte Christopher scored his first touchdown of the season on an 18-yard reception in the second quarter. He led Utah in receiving with five catches for 62 yards.

Kenneth Scott scored his third touchdown of the season on an 11-yard reception in the first quarter. Scott finished with two catches for 23 yards.

Nine different players caught passes. DeVonte Christopher (62 yards), Dres Anderson (47 yards) and Jake Murphy (41 yards) all had five catches.

Nate Fakahafua scored his first career touchdown on an eight-yard fumble recovery in the first quarter.

Eric Rowe led Utah and tied his career-high with 10 tackles. Brian Blechen finished with nine tackles.

Sean Sellwood had four total punts, downing two inside the 20-yard line with two punts over 50 yards, averaging 46.5 yards per punt. Sellwood has 46 career punts of 50+ yards.

Reshawn Hooker made his first start and appearance of his career at linebacker. He is the fourth true freshman to play for Utah this year. He had six tackles.

Others making their first career starts were Jason Whittingham and Tenny Palepoi. Kala Friel made his first career appearance.

Attendance is 46,037, the fourth-largest in Utah history and just the fourth crowd over 46,000.
