Utah vs. Air Force Postgame Notes

Oct. 24, 2009

Recap |  Final Stats

The overtime game was just the seventh in the history of Utah football. It was the first Utah had played since defeating Brigham Young on Nov. 19, 2005, 41-34 in overtime in Provo.

The Utes are 4-3 all-time in overtime games and 2-0 at home. The only other overtime game at Rice-Eccles stadium was on Nov. 7, 1998, against UTEP, a 34-27 victory.

Utah goes to 2-0 in overtime games against Air Force in the series history. Utah also won a triple-overtime contest on Nov. 1, 2003, in Colorado Springs.

Eddie Wide's 44-yard touchdown run was the first score of the game. Wide recovered a fumble by Terrance Cain and advanced it the remaining 44 yards. Since it is a continuation of a running play, Wide is credited with rushing yards but no carry. He left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury but returned after halftime.

Wide finished the game with 121 yards rushing on 17 attempts, eclipsing the 100-yard plateau for the fourth-straight game. He becomes the seventh Utah player to have four consecutive 100-yard games and the last since Darrell Mack in 2007.

David Reed's 90-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter from Terrance Cain was a career-long for both athletes. It was the second-longest pass in Utah history and the longest since a 78-yard catch from Alex Smith to Steve Savoy in 2004.

David Reed had his third 100-plus yard receiving game of the season with seven catches for 149 yards.

Several players had career-highs in tackles - Robert Johnson (15), Dave Kruger (13), Koa Misi (12), Sealver Siliga (11) and Derrick Shelby (9).

Sean Sellwood averaged 48.1 yards per punt (8 punts for 385 yards). He placed three punts inside the 20 and had three punts of over 50 yards. He pinned Air Force at the three-yard line with 3:44 remaining in the game and at the seven-yard line with 20 seconds left.

Joe Phillips made a 31-yard field goal in the third quarter to go to 7-for-7 on the year. He was 2-for-3 in PAT attempts.

DeVonte Christopher had four kickoff returns for 98 yards with a long return of 35 yards.

The Utes had three fumbles in the first quarter, losing two of them. Wide's 44-yard touchdown run was the result of the third.

Utah was held to 107 yards of total offense (22 plays) in the first half, its lowest output at halftime this year.

The Utes had just eight first downs during the game compared to 20 for Air Force. The Falcons also had 318 total yards of offense compared to 267 for Utah.

Boo Anderson had his first forced fumble on an Air Force punt return. Elijah Wesson had the recovery.

Attendance was 45,129.
