Utah suffered its first loss when leading at halftime since Oct. 19, 2006 against New Mexico (a 34-31 loss). Utah had won 49-straight games when leading at halftime, dating back to a 45-23 win over UNLV on Oct. 28, 2006. The streak was second in the nation to Oregon (58 games).
ASU was held to just 20 points, a season-low and over 25 points below its season average of 46.6 points per game (sixth in the nation).
Utah had a season-high 12 tackles for loss, which is tied for the fourth-most in a game all-time.
Kyle Whittingham’s record coming off byes dropped to 6-4 overall, 0-2 this season. Utah is 94-40-6 all-time coming off a bye week.
Utah’s record against ranked teams this season is 1-2. The Utes topped No. 5 Stanford but were defeated by No. 12 UCLA and No. 23. All three games have been played at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Travis Wilson completed a 55-yard pass to Dres Anderson in the third quarter. It was Wilson’s eighth pass of 50+ yards this season, Anderson’s sixth reception of 50+ yards and Utah’s 11th play of 50+yards. Utah entered this week ranked in the top five nationally in all three categories.
Wilson finished 6-of-21 for 121 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions (both in the fourth quarter on Utah’s final two drives of the game). Wilson was also Utah’s leading rusher with 17 carries for 44 yards.
Anderson led Utah with four catches for 100 yards. It was his fifth 100-yard game of the season and is the most 100-yard games since David Reed had five 100-yard games in 2009. Reed is now with the Indianapolis Colts.
Anderson scored his sixth touchdown of the season on an eight-yard reception in the first quarter.
Sean Fitzgerald scored his fifth touchdown of the year on a 12-yard reception in the third quarter. He had two catches for 21 yards.
Tom Hackett landed a punt at the 5-yard line at the end of the first quarter, his sixth inside the 10 this year and his seventh career punt inside the 5-yard line. He averaged 50.6 yards per punt, dropping three inside the 20 with four punts of 50+ yards. Hackett’s 455 yards punting ranks fifth all-time in a game at Utah.
Hackett had a 70-yard punt in the third quarter, a career-long and the 15th-longest punt in school history.
Andy Phillips made a career-long 51-yard field goal in the second quarter. He also made a 43-yard field goal in the third quarter. Phillips is 8-of-10 in field goals from 40 yards and out.
Attendance is 45,183, Utah’s 24th-straight sellout.
