Paid attendance was 45,026, extending Utah's home sellout streak to 12 games. The Utes averaged 45,149 spectators a game this season, which ranks fourth all-time at Utah, in 45,017-seat Rice-Eccles Stadium. This is the fourth-straight season Utah has averaged at least a capacity crowd at home.
The Utes now trail Colorado in the series 31-24-3 overall. The Buffaloes have drawn even with Utah 14-14-2 in Salt Lake City. Utah's 58 games against CU is its most against a Pac-12 school and the fifth-longest series in school history. The teams had not played since 1962.
Utah trailed 10-0 at halftime after being outgained by Colorado 154-17 in the first quarter (with 0 net rushing yards) and 254-39 in the first half. The Buffaloes ran 43 plays to the Utes' 17 through two quarters.
John White gained 28 yards on 10 carries before leaving the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. He moved into second place in single-season rushing yards with 1,404, moving past Dameon Hunter (1,396 yards in 2001).
White's string of four consecutive 100-yard rushing games was snapped. It was the first time in six contests White did not score a rushing touchdown.
Tauni Vakapuna had career-highs of 14 carries for 77 yards and one touchdown in relief of White. His previous career highs were 10 carries (Montana State in 2011) and 43 yards (New Mexico in 2010). Entering the game, Vakapuna had 17 rushes for 27 yards this season. He had not had a carry since the Arizona State game.
Vakapuna scored his first touchdown of the season (and the third of his career) on a three-yard run in the third quarter. He also became the first Ute other than John White to have a rushing touchdown this season.
Shawn Asiata had his first career touchdown (rushing or receiving) on a 6-yard reception in the third quarter.
With Asiata's TD grab, eight Utes have caught touchdown passes this season.
David Rolf (a converted defensive end) had a career-long catch for 26 yards in the fourth quarter. It was the second catch of his career after getting the first last week at Washington State.
Reggie Topps had his first career interception in the fourth quarter.
Chaz Walker had a season-high 13 tackles for his fifth double-figure tackle game of the season.
Star Lotulelei had the first full sack of his career and 2.0 tackles for loss (for 12 yards). He has 1.5 sacks and 9.0 tackles for loss this season.
Sean Sellwood's 66-yard punt in the first quarter was one yard shy of his career-long (67 set against TCU in 2010).
Sellwood had two punts of 50 yards or more and has 10 such punts this season. He has 31 career punts of 50 yards or more, which ranks fourth all-time.
Griff McNabb had a career-long punt return of 29 yards in the first quarter. His previous best was 19 yards.
