The quality is outstanding but the quantity is scarce in an injury-depleted linebacker corps overseen by defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake.
Junior Jason Whittingham is Utah's leading returning tackler and an all-conference candidate, and second-year starter Jared Norris was exceptional throughout spring. At some point in the season, Miami transfer Gionni Paul will return and elevate this position to another level. Paul, a redshirt last fall, was injured in spring camp.
Coach Whittingham Says
"While the depth at linebacker is a concern, we feel we have a talented group to work with. The addition of former running back Marcus Williams to the unit in the spring proved to be a positive and gives us another promising young player at the position."
