The Utah football team opens its annual preseason camp on Thursday, Aug. 4. The Utes will wear helmets and shorts for the first two days as part of the NCAA-mandated five-day acclimatization period. The camp, which concludes on Aug. 20, will consist of 20 practices, including three scrimmages. See sidebar for this week's practice times. Practices and scrimmages are closed to the public.

The Utes will carry 105 players (80 scholarship, 20 walk-ons) throughout fall camp, with the opening day roster including 14 members of Utah's 2011 recruiting class: Siaosi Aiono, Isaac Asiata, Joseph Bryant, Anthony Denham, Jon Hays, Charles Henderson, Harvey Langi, Keith McGill, Daniel Nielson, Jarrell Oliver, Quinton Pedroza, Eric Rowe, Travis Still and John White IV. The academic status of Po'u Palelei should be known later this week.

Signee Jordan Robles, who enrolled in classes this summer, is leaving on a church mission ... Candidates to grayshirt (i.e. defer enrollment until January 2012) include Tevita Bloomfield, Seni Fauonuku, Daniel Kristensen and Jared Norris. No final decisions have been reached, and one or more, could join the team during camp.

Junior quarterback Jordan Wynn has fully recovered from offseason surgery to his throwing shoulder and will be directing the first-string offense in fall camp. For precautionary reasons, Wynn will be limited to 100 throws a day during camp and will not throw on the second practice of Utah's two-a-days ... Walk-on senior running backs Shawn Asiata and Tauni Vakapuna, who played in every game last season, are hopeful to return to the team for fall camp. Neither player participated in spring ball due to personal reasons.

Single-game tickets to 2011 Utah home football games went on sale to the general public on August 1. Seats start at $45 for games against Montana State, Oregon State, UCLA and Colorado. Single tickets and standing room tickets are available for the Washington and Arizona State games ... The Utes will wear new uniforms this season featuring a high-performance material. A subtle design change--at a distance, indistinguishable from last year's jerseys--incorporates swirls signifying a topographical map of Utah in the numbers. A Pac-12 logo has been added to the back of the helmets, which are not new ... For the ninth year, Ute Baseball Field will serve as one of the football practice venues during preseason training. Other locations include the McCarthey Practice Fields and Rice-Eccles Stadium.
