The Utah football team held its final practices before Saturday's scrimmage.
Practices 13-14 Overview ...
Live Work Highlights ...
Whittingham noted that freshman cornerback Monte Seabrook had a pair of interceptions.
In the 20 minutes that media were allowed to observe during the morning practice, freshman wide receiver Kenric Young scored on a long touchdown pass along the left sideline. Senior wide receiver Kenneth Scott made a nice catch on a back-shoulder throw and senior tight end Westlee Tonga found a nice seam down the middle of the field for a long reception.
On schedule for determining position battles:
"After the scrimmage tomorrow, we'll start getting our legs back and turn our attention to Idaho State. Before that happens, we obviously have a huge scrimmage tomorrow that will carry a lot of weight in these position battles."
On the cornerbacks:
"The cornerbacks really stepped up today and made a lot of improvements. Monte Seabrook had a couple of interceptions and did some good things. Davion Orphey and Eric Rowe, our two starters, are doing a nice job. Justin Thomas, Boobie Hobbs and Casey Hughes were also mentioned. Wykie Freeman is playing the nickel position really well for us."
On freshman cornerback Monte Seabrook:
"He just played the ball really well [on his two interceptions]. He has a lot of natural ability. He still makes freshman mistakes and looks back at the ball way too often, but he does have good size and is exceptionally quick and fast. He has a chance to develop into a very good corner. It's all new to him, he didn't get much experience at corner in high school, but he's doing a good job."
Post-Practice Impressions From the Utes ...
Sophomore wide receiver/cornerback Dominique Hatfield
"It doesn't matter which position I play. I like the freedom you have on defense, but I enjoy playing wide receiver as well. Wherever they put me, I will stick with it and do whatever the team needs."
Senior tight end Westlee Tonga
"I have built a really good rapport with both quarterbacks [Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson]. Both are great quarterbacks and I know we will be successful with whoever gets the starting job."
#CampKyle Extras ...
