SALT LAKE CITY -
* The Utah football team has reached the midway point from when it started fall camp and the first game on Sept. 3. The players are showing some wear and tear from the grind, according to Coach Kyle Whittingham. "Everyone is banged up, sore and tired. We're happy with our injury situation right now, but we have several players out with strains and contusions."
* Several Utes are wearing prototype Under Armour gear this week. Walk-on freshman DB Chase Maires and starting defensive tackle Lei Talamaivao are both wearing jerseys that Under Armour is considering introducing to its line next fall. Talamaivao's #43 jersey is temporarily shelved for #40 in the prototype, but he'll be back in his right number come game time. Seven or eight players are practicing in trial Under Armour shoes for a few days, including Matt Asiata, Ryan Lacy and Mike Wright.
* At the end of the morning practice, three players tried to throw the football out of the stadium from the goal line as a means to keep the offense from having to run laps. Griff Robles, Shaky Smithson and Chad Manis all came close getting the ball over the south end zone, but none succeeded, so the offense ran.
* Kyle Whittingham's son Tyler has been added to the "105" roster as a walk-on, filling the spot vacated by Corbin Louks. Tyler Whittingham is a sophomore safety with three years of eligibility remaining. He will wear #15.
