Dec. 8, 2007

SALT LAKE CITY -
University of Utah junior Louie Sakoda was announced as a first-team All-America punter today by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and CBSSports.com. The latest honors bring Sakoda's first-team All-America awards to three. He previously made the Rivals.com team as a place-kicker.

Sakoda becomes the only first-team All-America punter in school history. A two-time Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, he was voted the league's first-team punter and second-team kicker this season.

Sakoda is the fifth Ute to be named to a major All-America first-team since 2002, joining current NFL players Jordan Gross (2002), Chris Kemoeatu (2004), Alex Smith (2004) and Eric Weddle (2005). Gross and Weddle were both Consensus All-Americans.

The FWAA team, the second longest continuously published All-America team in college football, is voted on by nearly 1,000 college football writers. The CBSSports.com team is selected by writers, producers and staff.
