SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah golf team finished 12th at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on Tuesday. The Utes finished Tuesday's final round at six-over par 294, the lowest round of the spring.
Utah finished the tournament with a total of 903 (308-301-294). Tuesday's 294 was the team's best single-round total since posting a seven-over 295 in the second round of the UTEP Invitational on Oct. 26, 2012.
Three Utes finished in the top 50, and four of five players improved their final-round scores by at least two shots from Monday's second round.
Junior Daniel Engle was the low Ute, posting his best finish of the season, as he tied for 25th. Engle finished the tournament with a six-over par 222 (75-72-75), earning his third career top-30 finish.
Sophomore Gentry Hicks tied for 39th with a 225 (77-76-72), while sophomore Brandon Kida tied for 44th with a 226 (77-76-73). Junior Casey Halliday (79-80-74) and freshman Jonathon Thomas (81-77-75) both finished tied for 68th, each shooting a 233.
The Utes return to action March 25-26, as they travel to Eugene, Ore., for the University of Oregon Invitational.
