KAUA'I, Hawaii- Utah golf currently sits in 10th place after posting an even-par score of 288 during the first day of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational at the Princeville Makai Golf Club. Junior Jack Maerki turned in a three-under-par 69 and is leading the Utes in a tie for 14th place.

"Jack played great today. I was with him the whole day and he didn't do anything flashy, but he played a good solid 18 holes of golf," head coach Randall McCracken said.

Senior Daniel Engle and sophomore Jonathon Thomas weretied for second among the Utes, both finishing with even-par 72's.

"Daniel and Jonathon both shot even with par, which is not bad golf at all," added McCracken. "J.T. struggled early on today a bit but he came around and that was huge for the team score. Dan played well, but struggled with some puts. Hopefully he will be working those tomorrow and can roll some in."

Sophomores Brent Pollock and Steven Croft rounded out the squad by each shooting three-over-par marks of 75.

The Utes return to action Tuesday for the second round of the tournament at 7:30 a.m. HST. Live scoring will continue to be available on golfstat.com.
