SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah golf team opens up the 2013 spring season in Tucson at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 28-29. The tournament will be played at the Golf Club at Vistoso, a 6,954-yard track that plays to a par of 72.
The first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament will be played on Monday, starting with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. The final 18 holes will be completed on Tuesday.
The Utes will take on 14 other teams at the event including host school and defending champion Arizona, who won last year's event with an 835 (-17; 277-277-281). Also in the field is third-ranked California and No. 23 New Mexico.
Last Time Out
Utah golf posted its best finish in three years, placing third at the UTEP Invitational in El Paso, Texas. The team shot an even-par 864 (281-295-288). Junior Ben Bankhead led the team with a career-low 212 (70-72-70), tying for second place, his career-best finish.
Last Time at the Arizona Intercollegiate
Junior Daniel Engle led the Utes at the 2012 Arizona Intercollegiate with a career-low 214 (70-73-71). Utah finished 10th with a team score of 899 (299-298-302).
