Syracuse, Utah - Utah golfer Brandon Kida won the only spot allotted to the state of Utah in the upcoming USGA Men’s Public Links Championship by shooting a nine under par 68-67-135 at Glen Eagle Golf Course.
“Playing for Utah and competing in the spring events really helped me during the tournament,” Kida said. “We play 36 holes in one day at every tournament so this setup was nothing out of the ordinary. I knew I had to stay patient and if I did screw up, there were a lot of holes to make it up.”
Kida, a rising senior from Layton, edged Nic Booth and Colton Dallimore for the lone spot by one shot. Booth shot 67-69-136 and Dallimore, who led at halfway point, shot 66-70-136.
Another Ute, Gentry Hicks, finished sixth after shooting 70-70-140.
“The way Coach McCracken prepares us mentally and physically for our season had me ready for this event,” Kida added. “Every day in the spring he works with us to improve areas in our game.”
The USGA Men’s Public Links Championship is being held July 14-19 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas.
