SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah golf team prepares to tee off its 2013-14 season at the 45th annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational Sunday and Monday. The tournament, hosted by the Air Force Falcons, will be held at the Eisenhower Golf Course on the 7,401-yard, par-72 Blue Course.
The 54-hole tournament is slated to begin with two rounds on Sunday with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will be played Monday beginning at 7:30 a.m.
The Utes will be competing against 15 teams, including, host Air Force and Air Force JV, Pac-12 rival Colorado, Colorado State, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UMKC, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State, Wichita State, and Wyoming.
Last Time at the Falcon Invitational
The squad posted a sixth-place finish last season at the Eisenhower Blue Course with score of 873 (297-290-286), nine-over-par. The finish was their best showing at any tournament since capturing fifth at the Kauai Collegiate Invite in 2009.
Gentry Hicks led the Utes with a score of 215 (73-70-72), tying for 11th. Following closely was Casey Halliday, posting a 217 (74-72-71) to tie for 14th. Daniel Engle and Ben Bankhead both shot a 222 and tied for 35th. Engle went 76-74-72, while Bankhead posted rounds of 74-77-71. Jack Maerki tied for 55th, scoring 227 (78-74-75). Brent Pollock played as an unattached individual, posting 245 (78-85-82) and finishing 85th.
