SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah men's golf team is set to compete in the second annual University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate Oct. 5-6 in Palm Desert, Calif. The tournament is hosted by the University of Wyoming at the par 72, 7,322 yard Classic Club beginning Monday with two rounds of 18 holes and wrapping up on Tuesday with the final round. Both days will begin at 7:45 a.m. PT shotgun start.
The Field: Seventeen teams will join the Utes, they include, Wyoming, Boise State, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Drake, Long Beach State, UMKC, Nebraska, Southern Utah, UTSA, UC Riverside, UC Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, UTEP, and Weber State.
The Last Time: Last year Utah completed the tournament in 16th place with a score of 931. Kaleb Mahanes, Joe Webber, Chase Hite, and Jeff Kitches all made appearances in the Desert Classic last year. Colorado State captured the team title with a score of 877, Daniel Walsh of Colorado State took the individual title with a score of 213, three-under-par.
Last Week: The Utes placed first at the Utah/Weber State Purple and Red Invite after being down 20 strokes after the first two rounds. Utah won the invite by one shot during the first playoff hole against the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Freshman Camden Nicholson led the Utes in his first performance for Utah tying for fifth place with a low mark of 69.
