BOISE, Idaho - The University of Utah men's tennis team (7-3) fell to Boise State (4-7) by a score of 6-1 Saturday at the Appleton Tennis Center. Ute junior Alejandro Medinilla captured Utah's solo point with a singles victory at the No. 3 position. Fellow junior Devin Lane also put in a solid effort at the fifth spot in a three-set match.

In doubles action, the Utes fell in all three sets, giving the Broncos the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, junior Devin Lane and sophomore Slim Hamza dropped an 8-2 decision to Andy Bettles and Nathan Sereke.

At the second slot, senior Dmytro Mamedov and Medinilla lost to Scott Sears and Garrett Patton, 8-2, while junior Ben Tasevac and sophomore Cedric Willems suffered a tight 8-6 loss to Filipp Pogostkin and Toby Mitchell at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, Mamedov was defeated by No. 30 Bettles, 6-2, 6-1 at the top spot as No. 98 Hamza lost to Sereke, 6-4, 6-1 at the second slot, making the score 3-0 in favor of Boise State.

Medinilla then captured Utah's first victory in a three-set thriller over Sears at the No. 3 position. Medinilla routed sears 6-3 in the first set, but fell in a tight 5-7 second set. But Medinilla rallied to take the third set, 11-9 making the score 3-1.

The Broncos then saw the match clinching point at 4-1 when Willems dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Pogostkin at the fourth slot. After putting in a solid effort to capture the first set, 3-6, Lane was unable to take the second and third sets against Thomas Tenreiro, falling 6-2, 10-4 at the No. 5 position.



Finally, Tasevac was defeated by Garrett Patton, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot, making the final score 6-1 in favor of Boise State.

Utah continues its road slate next weekend in a pair of matches in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Utes will face San Diego State at 11 a.m. Sunday followed by UC Santa Barbara Monday at 2 p.m.
