LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The men's tennis team dropped four out of six singles matches Saturday as it lost it's first Western Athletic Conference match of the year. The Utes were previously 1-0 in conference play with a February victory over instate rival BYU.
In singles play, Utah's No. 1 through No. 3 seed each were defeated. UNLV's Asaf Tishler downed Paul McPherson, 7-6, 6-3 followed by Nenad Zivkovic beating Ben Coates, 6-1, 1-6, 6- 3. The Rebel's No. 3 seed Danny Erez defeated Phil Rodrigue, 7-5, 6-2. Utah's first of two victories came by way of No. 4 seed Alex Buxton who downed Damu Bobb in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. Gregor Skorin of UNLV defeated Utah's Ryan Snow, 6-3, 6-0 and the Utes picked up their second point by No. 6 seed Adam Eke who downed Brandon Fallon, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, Utah won the No. 1 match as the tandem of Coates and Rodrigue defeated Zivkvic and Fallon, 8-5. UNLV picked up the doubles point by winning the next two matches as Tishler and Erez downed Eke and Buxton, 8-2, and Bobb and Skorin defeated Utah's McPherson and Snow, 9-8.
Utah's record is now 7-6 on the season, is 1-1 in WAC play and 1-6 on the road. The Utes resume play on Mar. 20 as they will take on Pac-10 power Southern California.
