SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team beat the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 7-0 at the Eccles Tennis Center.
Utah swept the doubles matches and earned an early one point lead. The Utes claimed six singles victories in straight set. Competing at the No. 1, senior Roeland Brateanu downed Thibault Schram (6-0, 6-4) and freshman Miron Mann defeated Jamie Maxwell (6-4, 6-2) at the No. 2. After a long match at the No. 3, sophomore Tomasz Gryzb came out on top with a (7-5, 7-5) win over Lew DeLeon. Sophomore Nick Coutts shut down Ronson Taylor (6-0, 6-0) at the No .4, while freshman Jason Yap crushed Brian Grooms (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 5. At the No.6, freshman Dantley Young topped Chris Wojcik (6-0, 6-1).
Head Coach F.D. Robbins comments on the match: "It was good to get a win going into the conference tournament. Roeland, Miron, and Tomasz played pretty well. They had their No. 2 and 3 guys that were injured so they weren't as good as what they would've been. It's a good win to get a little momentum going down to play UNLV and San Diego State this next weekend. So, we're getting some confidence to go down there and play those guys."
Up next, the Utes head into to conference play with match ups against San Diego State and UNLV April 2nd and 3rd in Las Vegas.
