SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (12-11, 2-5 Pac-12) netted a 6-1 victory over Arizona (10-13, 0-7 Pac-12) Saturday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. After the Utes captured the doubles point, junior Ben Tasevac decided the match at 4-0 from the No. 6 singles position.
In doubles action, senior Dmytro Mamedov and Tasevac teamed up at the No. 1 spot to top Kieren Thompson and Mario Urquidi, 8-4.
Utah quickly captured three singles matches to decide the match. To cap off his senior season with the Utes, Mamedov vanquished Shinde at the No. 2 singles spot, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 108 Hamza then downed Thompson at the top position, 6-1, 6-2, making the score 3-0.
Tasevac then bested Dunn at the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-2, deciding the match for Utah at 4-0.
Willems then battled Bermudez to a tight 4-6, 7-6(3), 10-6 win at the fifth slot, while Medinilla topped Urquidi, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 3 position to post the Utes' sixth point.
The Wildcats saw their solo point of the match when Lane suffered a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7(4), 11-9 loss to Takeda at the No. 4 spot.
