COSTA MESA, Calif. -The Utah men's tennis team saw three individuals advance to the third round of the qualifying draw after play concluded Saturday at the F24 USA Futures Event at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Junior Cedric Willems defeated fourth-seeded Sahr Kuplun, 7-6(0), 2-6, 4-3, ret., while fellow junior Slim Hamza routed Stanford's Matt Kandath, 6-2, 6-2, making his record against the former Cardinal, 3-0. Senior Ben Tasevac then defeated UC Irvine's No. 1 singles player, Ryan Cheung, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(8).
Sunday, in the third round, Willems will face Logan Smith, while Hamza will battle Sahuk Bazrganian. Finally, Tasevac will take on Michael Grant of USC.
All three Utes are schedule to play tomorrow, Sunday, in the third round of the qualifying.
