SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team completed the second day of the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament Friday. Competition was moved indoors to the Eccles Tennis Center due to inclement weather. Championship rounds for the main singles and consolation singles draws are slated to begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the doubles championship round.

Utah's second-seeded senior Dmytro Mamedov and first-seeded sophomore Slim Hamza advanced through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds and will face each other for the individual title in the singles championships. Mamedov managed a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over BYU's seventh-seeded Francis Sargeant in the quarterfinals, then topped John Pearce of BYU by the same margin 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, in the semifinals. Hamza bested fellow Ute eighth-seeded junior Devin Lane in the quarterfinals by a mark of 6-2, 6-1, then followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Utah State's sixth-seeded Sven Poslusny in the semifinals.

In other singles quarterfinal matches, junior Ben Tasevac dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Poslusny, while fellow Ute junior Alejandro Medinilla fell to Pearce, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Mamedov and Medinilla are slated to take on third-seeded Lane and Hamza in the championship round after capturing victories in the semifinals. Mamedov and Medinilla propelled past Weber State's Todd Fought and Sanjay Goswami, 8-5, while Lane and Hamza lambasted BYU's second-seeded Sargeant and Spencer Smith, 8-4.

In consolation doubles play, sophomore Rafael Davidian and redshirt freshman Justin Archer trounced BYU's Scott Bohne and Nikki Rae, 8-3 in the semifinals. The duo then surpassed Ryan Garner and Anthony Trabert of Weber State, 8-4, claiming the consolation doubles title.
