SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (4-8) will host No. 45-ranked San Diego (7-5) Saturday, March 20. Weather permitting the match will be held at the Liberty Park Tennis Courts if the temperature stays above 50 degrees. Otherwise the match will take place indoors at the Eccles Tennis Center beginning at 1 p.m.
Utah is looking for a win after losing three straight home matches. Last year the Utes topped the Toreros, 5-2, after falling, 7-0, the previous year.
San Diego is looking to break a three match losing streak. Last weekend the Toreros fell to South Carolina Upstate, No. 34-ranked Arizona and No. 66-ranked Boise State. They have defeated one ranked opponent No. 51 UC Irvine. San Diego will play BYU Thursday before seeing the Utes on Saturday.
Last weekend Utah hosted the No. 36-ranked University of Nebraska. The Utes started strong capturing the doubles point sweeping the Huskers. The doubles team of Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding upset the No. 54-ranked David Bendheim and Calin Paar, 8-3. Utah fell short in singles coming out with wins from the Nos. 1 and 4 positions. Phillip Eilers topped No. 113-ranked Chris Aumueller, 6-4, 6-4, and Timmy Allin defeated Francois Van Impe, 7-6(6), 7-6(5). The Utes fell to the Huskers, 4-3.
