SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team announced the signing of Sahak Bazrganian (pronounced suh-HUCK BAZZ-er-GAY-knee-ann) of Glendale, Calif., to a National Letter of Intent. Bazrganian has been ranked as high as 15th in the country and is currently ranked 2nd in Southern California.
"I chose Utah because of the players on the team, as well as the coaches," said Bazrganian. "My official visit helped me realize how close and family oriented the team can be. It is great knowing that it's a very young team and we will grow together and learn from each other as we progress on and off the tennis court. I absolutely loved everything about Utah"
Bazrganian holds wins over current UCLA players and future Pac-12 opponents, Clay Thompson and Daniel Kosokowski. He also holds a win over Macros Giron, who is currently the No. 1-ranked junior player in the nation.
Bazrganian's recent top results include a semifinal appearance at the 2010 Carson Spring Championship. He also reached the round of 16 at the 2010 Easter Bowl.
"I am very proud to announce the signing of our first ever blue chip recruit," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "Sahak will improve our team tremendously and help us become competitive in the Pac-12 Conference."
Bazrganian will join 5-star recruit Geoffrey Matias and top 100 junior in the world Slim Hamza when the Utes enter the Pac-12 during the 2011-12 season.
