Format
The Pac-12 will host it’s first-ever team tennis tournament to determine the automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships. Teams will be seeded based on won-lost percentages during regular-season Conference play. On Wednesday, matches between seed Nos. 5 and 8 and Nos. 6 and 7 will open play. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will play the winners, respectively, on Thursday. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds advance directly to the semifinal round on Friday.

Sixth-seeded Oregon Ducks
No. 68 Oregon completed regular season play with a 6-1 loss to No. 26 Washington on the road. Robin Cambier currently holds the Duck’s best singles dual-match record of 18-5, a 78% winning percentage, and a 2-5 conference-play record. In doubles play, Cambier pairs up with Jeff Mullen for a 19-3 record at the No. 1 position, going 4-3 in conference play. Oregon’s Alex Rovello and Jose Izquierdo team up for a 16-2 overall doubles record and a 4-2 record against conference opponents.

When Utah faced Oregon earlier this season, the Utes suffered a 4-3 loss to No. 66 Oregon in Eugene, Ore. 50th-ranked freshman Slim Hamza and sophomores Devin Lane and Alejandro Medinilla netting singles victories to post Utah’s three points.

Third Seeded Stanford Cardinal
No. 12 Stanford round out regular season play with a 5-2 victory at No. 14 California, improving to 5-2 in conference play, 16-7 overall, and 11-7 against nationally ranked opponents. Stanford currently boasts two ranked individuals, including No. 31 Ryan Thacher and No. 45 Bradley Klahn. Thacher is currently 12-7 in dual matches and 4-3 against conference opponents, while Klahn is 10-4 in dual matches a 6-1 in conference play. The two Cardinal pair up in doubles to be ranked seventh nationally with an 11-2 dual-match record at the No. 1 doubles position.

If the Utes defeat the Ducks, they will face third-seeded Stanford Thursday in the second round. Utah took on Stanford earlier this season, falling to the Cardinal 4-3 at the Eccles Tennis Center. Junior Dmytro Mamedov earned his first upset of the season over a ranked opponent, topping 25th-ranked Thacher at the No. 2 singles slot, 6-0, 7-6(2). Lane and Hamza also earned individual victories.

Utes Capture First-Ever Pac-12 Win
Utah captured it’s first-ever Pac-12 conference win at Arizona. After netting the doubles point, No. 70 Hamza and senior Benito Suriano gained Utah a 3-0 lead. Despite dropping two singles matches at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions, sophomore Alejandro Medinilla and Mamedov managed two addition singles victories from the Nos. 6 and 2 spots for the 5-2 victory.
