SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The University of Utah men's tennis team announced the commitment of Louis-Philippe Gascon. Gascon, a 6′ 5″ left handed player from Canada, will join the Utes in August in preparation for the 2013-2014 season.
"I am very excited to join the Utes and to be part of this dynamic tennis team and this excellent athletic program," Gascon said. "From the very start, and through all the exchanges and conversations I have had with the coaching staff, I always felt I was becoming part of the Ute family and this is just great."
Gascon is currently coached by former professional tennis player and Canadian National Champion Frederic Niemeyer. Under Niemeyer's tutelage Gascon has made some major improvements which have led to his commitment to Utah.
"I have no doubt that joining the University of Utah is the best choice for me and I can't wait to contribute to the success of the team," Gascon added.
Between the ages of 13 and 17, he won 10 provincial tournaments and made it to the finals of twelve more tournaments in Canada. In the Under-16 age division he finished 16th at the Canadian Championships. That same year he was a semifinalist in doubles in the Provincial Championships in Quebec.
Gascon attended College Jean-de-Brebeuf High School in Montreal, Canada and is interested in majoring in business administration.
