SALT LAKE CITY - Utah men's tennis players Justin Archer, Alejandro Medinilla and Cedric Willems have all recently competed in International Tennis Federations Futures events across the globe.

Medinilla competed in the first round of the main draw of the F12 Futures for the first time. The rising senior won a wild card tournament to earn a spot in the main draw and almost upset 24-year old Mauricio Echazu (Peru), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

"I definitely had my chances," said Medinilla. "I got down early in the third set and with these guys it's so hard to catch up."

In Florida, Archer won the first round of qualifiers at the Amelia Island Futures event, beating Irving Corrales (Venezuela), 6-2, 6-3. In his third consecutive week on the green clay in Florida, Archer earned his first ever win on the Futures tour.

Willems is trying to continue his momentum from the end of the season, playing on the red clay in the Netherlands. He lost in the first round of the qualifying to Akash Wagh (India) in a tough three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 and is now slated to play in the F2 Future event taking place in Alkmaar.
