SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team announced that Parker McGuiness will join the team next season after transferring from NC State.
"We are very proud to announce Parker's commitment," said head coach Roeland Brateanu. "He is a very talented player with a bright future and he brings experience of playing on a top-25 team to our program. Coach Pollock and I have very high expectations and we can't wait to start working with him."
McGuiness joins the Utes after playing at North Carolina State for one season where he accumulated a 7-5 (3-2 ACC) singles record and a 6-3 record in doubles. He notched wins, amongst others, over Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State and TCU.
Prior to joining the Wolfpack, he was a 5-star recruit who ranked as high as No. 67 in the nation and No. 3 in the state of Texas according to tennisrecruiting.net. McGuiness won the Cotton Bowl in December 2012 and was a quarterfinalist at the 2013 Capsher Texas Grand Slams.
"I'm very excited to play for the University of Utah," McGuiness said. "I look forward to having a great year on the tennis court and in the classroom."
McGuiness is the fourth player to commit to the 'U' since Brateanu's hiring in May. Johan Jonhagen (Sweden), Santiago Sierra (Mexico) and Jamey Swiggart (Idaho State) will also join the program this season.
