SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team announced the addition of sophomore Cedric Willems to its 2012-13 roster Monday.
"We are very proud to announce the commitment of Cedric Willems, especially this late in the recruiting season," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "Cedric is a great player who will make an immediate impact in both our singles and doubles line-ups. We are looking forward to having him join the team immediately in the fall."
Willems, originally from The Hague, the Netherlands, joins the Utes from Clemson University, where he played during the spring of 2012, competing at the Nos. 4-6 singles positions and Nos. 2-3 doubles slots.
In 2011, he earned the Dutch Junior National Indoor Champion title and has been consistently ranked in the top 10 in the Netherlands throughout the juniors division. He has also been instructed by renowned Swedish coach Martin Bohm. During the summer, Willems reached the second round of qualifying play at an ATP challenger event in Scheveningen, the Netherlands.
"I am very excited to be a part of the Utah program," said Willems. "I think the team and the coaches at Utah are ambitious. I want to improve myself as a player and as a person. I think this is the right place to accomplish that. I hope that I'll win a lot of matches for Utah in my career and have a positive impact on the team."
