Utah Men's Tennis Prepares for ITA All-American Championships

No. 48 senior Dmytro Mamedov automatically qualified to play in the main draw at the 2012 ITA All-American Championships.
SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team heads to Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Pre-qualifying draw will be played this weekend, followed by qualifying and main draw play, Oct. 1-7. Utah will be represented by five players.

"We are very excited to have two players selected for the main draw," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "It is a great opportunity of Dmytro and Slim to measure themselves with the very best college tennis has to offer and I am looking forward to see what Alejandro, Devin, and Rafael can do as well."

Juniors Devin Lane and Alejandro Medinilla will begin the tournament Saturday in singles pre-qualifying play. Sophomore Rafael Davidian has been selected for singles qualifying play, which will begin Monday. Fellow Utes No. 48 senior Dmytro Mamedov and No. 37 sophomore Slim Hamza will represent Utah in main-draw play beginning Oct. 4.

Last Time at the All-American Championships In 2011, the Utes were represented by freshmen Ace Matias, sophomore Alejandro Medinilla, and junior Dmytro Mamedov. Matias earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Northwestern's Raleigh Smith in the first round before falling to Eric Sock of Nebraska, 6-2, 6-2 in the second round. Medinilla fell in the second round to USC's Edgar Rodriguez, 6-4, 6-3, while fellow Ute Mamedov dropped a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 decision to Max Ando-Hirsch of SMU in the first round.
