SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team will be represented by junior Zach Ganger in the ITA National Indoor Championships hosted by Ohio State University on November 2-5 in Columbus, Ohio.

Ganger is fresh off of a big win against Clancy Shields of Boise State (6-3, 3-6, 6-2) at the ITA Mountain West Regional Tournament that was held Las Vegas, Nev. from Oct. 18-22. As champion of the tournament, he now has the honor of representing Utah in the National Indoor Championships. This is the first year since 1999 that the men's tennis team has been able to send a representative to the tournament. In that year, Ben Coates and Phil Rodrigue competed for Utah at the National Indoors in the doubles.

Ganger will compete against No.8 nationally ranked Erling Tveit of Mississippi for the first round. Competition for the Ute and Ole Miss Rebel is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Nov. 2 around 5:30 p.m.EST.

"It's exciting for Zach to be able to compete in the National Indoors this year. We haven't had someone play in the tournament for a while. There are only 32 players in the country that are playing in the tournament so it is an honor that he earned by winning our regional tournament," says head coach F.D. Robbins. "As far as the Indoors go, I think he should be able to compete with anybody he plays. With play indoors, it is easy to serve and volley and to play an aggressive game, and that's Zach's style. I think if he goes there and competes well then he can do very well."

The tournament features a 32-player singles field and a 16-team doubles field for men and women. Participants advance to this competition after being named champions from the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country during October. Competition also features winners of the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American Tennis Championships and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.

Ohio State University will be hosting the event for the second straight year. This is the second of three prestigious national tournaments in the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season.
