SEATTLE - The Utah women's basketball team erased a 13-point deficit before struggling to score down the stretch in a 54-43 loss to 13th-ranked UCLA.
Michelle Plouffe recorded her eighth double-double of the season in the loss with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Taryn Wicijowski (who was limited due to early foul trouble) and Cheyenne Wilson each also scored 10 points for Utah. Wilson was in double-figure scoring for the second time this season. Iwalani Rodrigues tallied eight points with six boards.
UCLA led by as many as 13 points in the first half and held a nine-point lead at halftime, 29-20. The Utes opened the second half with a 17-4 run over the first 10:30 of the second half, taking their first lead of the game on a Wilson basket, 37-35 with 9:30 remaining.
The Utes went cold down the stretch as the game continued. With UCLA up by one, 40-39 with 7:20 remaining, Utah would make just one more field goal the remainder of the game, plus two free throws from Rodrigues, allowing the Bruins to push their lead back up by double digits in the final minutes.
UCLA converted 17 Utah turnovers into 17 points.
