SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team jumped out to a big lead and three players scored in double figures as the Utes defeated Weber State, 73-47 on Saturday afternoon.

Michelle Plouffe had a team-high 18 points with nine rebounds. Taryn Wicijowski scored 16 points while Paige Crozon scored in double figures for the first time in her career with 10 points. Danielle Rodriguez pulled down eight rebounds.

Utah raises its record to 5-0 for the year.

The Wildcats shot just 25 percent from the floor (19-of-79). Weber State had 19 offensive rebounds.

"I am very pleased with our effort," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds, but we got them to miss 57 shots, so we are pleased with our half-court defense. I'm very pleased overall with the way we handled ourselves in a really physical basketball game. I think there are a lot of things we can learn from as we move forward with our season and prepare for a difficult conference schedule."

The Utes held a 22-2 advantage through the first 10 minutes of the game. Utah led 35-18 at halftime. Plouffe had 13 first-half points while Wicijowski had nine points at the break. The Utes shot 58 percent in the first half.

Utah continued to hold a substantial lead in the second half. Although Weber State cut the lead down to 15 points, 42-27 with 13:15 left in the game, the Utes pushed the lead up to 30 points with seven minutes left, 60-30, with the run capped off by two free throws by Plouffe.

Utah shot 47 percent from the floor in the game.

Weber State (0-5) was led by 14 points and 11 rebounds from Jalen Carpenter. The Wildcats took advantage of Utah turnovers, scoring 24 points off 21 Ute turnovers.

Ariel Reynolds (four points) and Nakia Arquette (two points) scored the first points of their careers. The Utes used 11 players in the game.

"Gaining that experience is huge this early in the season," Levrets said. "It's great to get almost everyone the opportunity to play some meaningful minutes, not just in cleanup time, but coming in and getting minutes when it matters. I thought everyone who played did a really good job of contributing."

Utah returns home on Tuesday, Nov. 27, against Utah State at 7:00 p.m. MT.
