Butler scored the first points of the contest before a 4-0 Ute run gave them an early 4-2 lead. Butler came back with a 4-0 run of its own, but Utah came back with a Nawahine 3-pointer to tie the game for the second time. The Bulldogs then took six of the next eight points to grab a 15-9 lead, but a 4-0 personal run by Plouffe brought the Utes within a pair (15-13). Butler was able to extend its lead back out to nine (24-15) via a 9-2 spurt. Utah was able to pull within six (30-24) and ended the half with a pair of Owens' 3-pointers, but trailed going into halftime for the first time this season, 34-27.
