SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team opens the 2010 Mountain West Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed against ninth-seeded Air Force on Tuesday, March 9, at 2:05 p.m. PT. The Utes finished the season tied for third in the Mountain West Conference (10-6).

Utah is 15-7 all-time in the MWC Tournament. The Utes have never been the four seed, but were the No. 5 seed in 2002 and 2007. Utah is the defending champion of the tournament, beating San Diego State in last year's championship game, 63-58. The Utes also won championships in 2000 and 2006. Utah has played in the championship game five times in the 10-year history of the tournament (2000, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009).

The Utes had three players named to all-conference teams. Kalee Whipple earned first-team honors for the second time in her career while Taryn Wicijowski was selected as the MWC Freshman of the Year in addition to being named to the second team. Halie Sawyer was picked for the All-Defensive team.

Air Force is 3-26 on the season and went 0-16 in conference play. Raimee Beck, who earned honorable mention All-MWC honors, leads the Falcons with 13.6 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Utah won both games played this season, 67-47 in Colorado Springs on Jan. 23 and 73-48 in Salt Lake City on Feb. 24. The Utes are 29-0 all-time against Air Force.
