Former University of Utah standout Kim Gaucher (Smith) has signed a contract to finish the remainder of the professional season in France for Arras Pays d'Artois Basket Feminin.
Her most recent international professional experience was with Tarbes Gespe Bigorre in France. In seven games, she averaged 12.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She also played five games in the Eurocup, where she had 8.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
Gaucher (Smith) was a first-round selection in the 2006 WNBA Draft, going to the Sacramento Monarchs with the 13th pick overall before being acquired by the Phoenix Mercury in 2009.
As a captain of the Canadian National Team since May of 2000, Gaucher was the team's leading scorer and helped the squad to the quarterfinals of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the team's best finish since 1980. In six games, she scored 13.8 points, grabbed 3.2 rebounds to go with 1.2 assists per game with a .667 field goal percentage, and a .500 percentage from 3-point territory.
Gaucher (Smith) has played also professionally in Spain (Ibiza) and Belgium (Belfius Namur).
Gaucher (Smith) will continue her duties on the Ute coaching staff as Utah's Director of Community Relations.
As a player at Utah from 2002-06, Gaucher (Smith) was recognized as an Honorable Mention WBCA All-American each of her four seasons and was the first female student-athlete to have her jersey retired in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Gaucher (Smith) was also a CoSIDA Academic All-American and one of only two players in the history of NCAA Division I women's basketball to be named conference player of the year four times.
