SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team will travel to Saint Mary's for the quarterfinals of the WNIT on Saturday, March 30, at 2:00 p.m. PT.
The Utes defeated Long Beach State in the first round and beat San Diego in the second round before winning an overtime thriller over Pacific in the third round. Utah has won 10 of its last 13 games.
"This time of year you have to move past the last game and move on to the next one," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "Hopefully we'll have a productive day of preparing and implementing a game plan to go compete with a really good Saint Mary's team. With a quick turnaround, you have to make sure you really find out how another team scores and what they're good at and take it away from them, and fortunately our staff is really good at that."
Saint Mary's is 23-10 on the year. The Gaels went 11-5 in the West Coast Conference. Saint Mary's is 1-3 against the Pac-12 this year, with losses to Washington, California and UCLA and a win over Oregon.
"[Saint Mary's] runs a ton of on-ball screens, and it puts a lot of pressure on your defense to keep them out of the paint and play good in the pick-and-roll, but also being good on both sides of the floor, ball-side and help-side, and it puts a lot of pressure on you," Levrets said.
Utah is 5-0 all-time against Saint Mary's. The last time the two teams played was in the 2010 WNIT, with the Utes coming away with a 66-53 win.
Utah is making its seventh appearance in the WNIT (1979, 1984, 1999, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013). Utah is 7-9 overall in the tournament.
