Utah has defeated Long Beach State, San Diego, Pacific, Saint Mary's and Kansas State to reach the title game. Four of the five games have been on the road, and the Utes defeated Pacific and KSU in overtime.
"We're so proud of our kids," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "The commitment and playing together and working through adversity is what makes a special basketball team, and this group of kids has done all of those things, and now has a chance to have a special accomplishment."
Drexel is 27-10 overall. The team went 14-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons have defeated Iona, Harvard, Bowling Green, Auburn and Florida in the WNIT.
Utah and Drexel have never met on the court. Utah has played in Pennsylvania once, playing two games in the AIAW National Championship at Penn State in 1976.
"Drexel is a lot like us," Levrets said. "They run motion, and they are really good in it. They are a little bit different defensively - they play several different defenses, but they are a motion-based team and have very talented players and are very well coached. This time of year any team that you are playing is a good basketball team, so we are going to have our work cut out for us."
Utah is making its seventh appearance in the WNIT (1979, 1984, 1999, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013). Utah is 9-9 all-time in the tournament.
