Women's Basketball Players Earn Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarships

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah women's basketball seniors Rachel Messer and Chelsea Bridgewater have been selected as Pac-12 Postgraduate Scholarship recipients for the 2012-13 academic year.

The $3,000 scholarship goes to student-athletes with a minimum 3.0 grade point average who have also demonstrated a commitment to continuing education, campus and community involvement, and leadership.

Messer played in all 139 games during her four-year career, making 96 starts. She was a strong three-point shooter for Utah, with over 75 percent of her total baskets coming from behind the arc. Messer finishes her career 10th all-time at Utah in both three-point field goals made (138) and three-point field goals attempted (381). She was a three-time academic all-conference player.

Bridgewater was a tough, hard-nosed player who provided the Utes with key minutes on the floor over four years, playing in 87 games. She originally joined the Utes as a walk on before earning a scholarship partway through her freshman season. Bridgewater shot over 70-percent from the free-throw line in her career. She was a three-time academic all-conference player.

Messer will work towards an MBA at Westminster College while Bridgewater will attend law school at BYU.

Chelsea Bridgewater played in 87 games during her career.
