SALT LAKE CITY -- An intra-squad scrimmage, a three-point shooting contest and a dunk competition got the 2007-08 season started for the University of Utah men's and women's basketball team here at the Huntsman Center this evening.
The highlight of the evening was a 10-minute intra-squad scrimmage for both teams.
In the men's scrimmage, the Red Team jumped out to a 12-6 lead at halftime and held on for a 19-15 victory.
On the women's side of things, the Red team raced out to a 9-0 lead in cruising to the 18-4 victory over the White team.
Leading the way for the Red team was Morgan Warburton and her nine points on 4-for-7 shooting. Highly touted point guard Leilani Mitchell ran the offense for the Red team. She had four points, four assists, three rebounds and a block in her first action in almost two years.
The three-point competition pitted the men against the women. Warburton won the semifinal for the women while Stephen Weigh won the seminfinal for the men. They squared off, head-to-head, for the title and Weigh came out on top, 24-15.
