With the start to the women's basketball season just around the corner, UtahUtes.com will be spotlighting the members of the women's basketball team in `Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is sophomore Allison Gida.
What is your favorite basketball memory?
Going to Vegas for the conference tournament, Cancun in the early season, and going to the NCAA Tournament.
What is your favorite sport besides basketball?
Football. I always wanted to be the receiver, and safety, and quarterback.
What do you like to do when you are not playing basketball?
Watching movies, shopping!, eating, and if I could I would ride roller coasters all day.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
Al, Alli, Alley Cat - it was easier and quicker to say on the court!
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I liked the city and my teammates. Best thing about Utah is that I already knew some coaches and teammates coming here.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My mom. She has achieved so much and works hard at everything she does and keeps a smile on her face no matter the circumstances.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
Actually living in the city with all these things to do. I am from a small town and I love the city.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
Janita Badon. She works so hard and puts all her love and effort into whatever she does. She is a great leader and someone to look up to. She pushes me harder in basketball, and gives good advice off the court.
What do you like best about Coach Levrets?
His teaching strategies and his love to win. I love winning also.
What are your goals for this year?
To improve my shot, my right-hand game, and get some minutes on the court.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
I am undecided, but I am thinking about sociology with a criminology certificate. After school I would like to play overseas and later do something with the law.
