Women's Basketball Signs Three

Nov. 11, 2011

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team has announced the signings of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Danielle Rodriguez (Downey, Calif.), Nakia Arquette (Spokane, Wash.) and Paige Crozon (Humboldt, Saskatchewan) will join the Utes in 2012-13.

"I am very pleased with this recruiting class, as this addresses our needs for the immediate future," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "And just as importantly, these young women are high quality student-athletes who will be excellent representatives of the University of Utah and women's basketball during their careers."

Rodriguez is an all-region and all-conference point guard out of Warren High School. She averaged 15.3 points per game last season. Rodriguez is the student-body president of her 4,000 student high school.

"Danielle is a very gifted point guard," Levrets said. "She has played at a high level in high school and in club ball, and she possesses both the basketball and leadership skills to be a point guard at the very highest level."

Arquette helped lead Lewis and Clark High School to the 2011 state title and was selected to the all-tournament team, and was also an all-league selection despite sitting out most of the year with an injury. The honor roll student was named the state's 4A sportsmanship award winner.

"Nakia comes from one of the best high school programs in the state of Washington," Levrets said. "She is going to be well prepared for college basketball. She is a very versatile player who can play inside but can also shoot from three with incredible accuracy."

Crozon has been participating with the Canadian National Team for the past two seasons, playing in the 2011 U19 World Championship for Women, the 2011 Pan-Am Games and the 2010 U17 World Championship for Women. A versatile athlete, she has won provincial championships in basketball, volleyball, track, hockey and swimming.

"Paige is another incredibly gifted player," Levrets said. "She can shoot it from three and she is extremely versatile. Her ability to play on the perimeter and around the basket coupled with her international experience has prepared her well to compete at the collegiate level. Her competitiveness will add immediate toughness to our program."

Utah is beginning its first season in the Pac-12. The Utes won seven of 12 Mountain West Conference regular season championships from 1999-2011.
