Lia Del Priore is the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week after earning the first 10.0 on floor in the Pac-12 this season.
Feb. 26, 2013
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- - Utah junior gymnast Lia Del Priore was named the Pac-12 Specialist of the Week after her 10.0 on the floor helped Utah secure a 197.300-197.075 win over No. 10 Stanford last Saturday.
The 10.0 was the first by a Utah gymnast on floor in eight years and crushed Del Priore's previous career mark of 9.85 set in 2011. It was the third 10.0 by a Pac-12 gymnast this season, the second by a Ute (Tory Wilson scored a 10.0 on vault on Feb. 9) and the first in the Pac-12 on floor.
Del Priore's perfect score was all the more impressive since her routine was early in the lineup (second) and scores tend to rise during the rotation. It was just her fourth floor routine in the past two seasons and the 10.0 shattered her previous career high of 9.85 set in 2011. She also competed on the vault and scored a career-high 9.90 to tie for third place.
Utah has now been awarded Pac-12 Specialist of the Week five times, including the last four weeks. Wilson has won the award three times (Jan. 22, Feb. 5 and Feb. 19) and Georgia Dabritz claimed it on Feb. 12.
In their two years as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, the Utes have won eight Pac-12 Specialist of the Week awards and two Gymnast of the Week awards, including one by Dabritz this season (on Jan. 22).
